Middle schoolers get pair of wins

Fort Scott Middle School's football teams picked up victories in the first interscholastic football games since 1982 as the Tigers swept El Dorado Springs, Mo., at Frary Field Thursday evening.

The seventh-grade Tigers won 40-0 in the first game. The eighth-grade squad took a 48-0 victory.

The seventh graders scored twice in the first quarter. Tyler Gorman scored on an 11-yard run and Treyton Wilson scored the 2-point conversion to make it 8-0. Matt Campbell hauled in a 47-yard TD pass from Gorman and Wilson scored another 2-point conversion to make it 16-0.

Gorman and Campbell connected again on a 14-yard pass in the second quarter and Coy Pollmierer added the 2-pointer to make it 24-0.

Wilson scored a touchdown from 9 yards out and Pollmierer added the 2 points to make it 32-0 in the third.

The final score was a third TD connection between Gorman and Campbell from 6 yards out in the fourth. Pollmierer's 2-point conversion produced the final score of 40-0.

Wilson rushed for 98 yards to lead the Tigers. Gorman completed 5 of 7 passes, all to Campbell. for 85 yards.

The eighth grade produced its first score on defense as Gunnar Brown returned an interception 53 yards with 7:39 remaining in the second quarter. Jesse Jones scored on a 1-yard run with 5:05 to go to make it 12-0, conversions failing after both scores.

Zarek Fewell scored on a 58-yard run with 2:28 left in the half and Jessie Lawrence's 2-point conversion made it 20-0.

Lawrence scored on a 40-yard run and Trey Holston ran in from 61 yards out in the third. Derek Bollinger scored a 2-point conversion after the second TD to make it 34-0.

Bollinger scored on a 35-yard run with 7:14 left in the game. Fewell scored on a 22-yard run and Holston ran in the conversion with 6:15 remaining.

Bollinger finished with 124 yards rushing while Fewell added 100, Holston contributed 80 and Lawrence added 76. The eighth graders didn't throw a pass, according to the stats sheet turned in.

Defensive stats provided show that Andrew Callahan was in on 10 tackles, 7 solos and 3 assists. Fewell made 9 tackles, and Lawrence and Colby Page each made 7.

The middle school teams will take on Parsons at Frary Field Thursday evening. The seventh-grade game will kick off at 5:30 p.m.
