Fern Rexine Brown

Fern Rexine Brown, age 81, resident of Fulton, Kan., died Sunday, Sept. 15, at Mercy Hospital. She was born Jan. 20, 1932, in Mapleton, Kan., the daughter of Walter and Mina Cook Wardrip. She moved to Fulton when she was 5 years old, and lived there most of her life. She graduated from Fulton High School. She married Dean Brown on July 2, 1949, in Eureka Springs, Ark. She worked at the Family Shoe Store in Fort Scott for many years as well as Edminstons, Kresses, and John D. Lewis Insurance Company. Fern was a very good cook with such a large family. Her specialties included noodles and coconut cream and cherry pie. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, Yatzee, and playing cards. She liked to fish in her earlier years. She was the president of the Fulton Community Center for many years.

Survivors include her husband Dean of the home; two daughters, Shirley Webber and husband Gary, Paola, Kan., and Sharon Oakes and husband Jim, Clarksville, Tenn.; two sons, Lynn Brown and wife Melissa, Redfield, Kan., and Edward Brown of the home. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; and 24 great grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd, Roy and Earl Wardrip; as well as her parents.

Pastor Greg Stine will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mapleton Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Fulton Community Center and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O. Box 347, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, Kansas 66701.
