Floyd D. Lytle

Floyd D. Lytle, 96, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Thursday, Sept.12, 2013, at Adams Street Place in Jefferson City, Mo. He was born June 29, 1917, in Fort Scott, Kan., a son of the late Wesley and Florence (Brouhard) Lytle. He was a graduate of Fort Scott High School, and went on receive his degree in Mechanical Engineering from Fort Scott Community College in Fort Scott, Kan. On Aug. 28, 1938, Floyd was united in marriage in Anadarko, Okla., to Marie Cummings, who survives at the home. Floyd and Marie recently celebrated 75 years of a loving marriage.

Floyd was a foreman at the T.W.A. Engine Overhaul Base in Kansas City, Mo., until his retirement after 36 years of dedicated service to the company. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, and they traveled to all 50 states and more than 20 countries. They led bus tours in the United States after his retirement. Floyd was a member of Community Christian Church, and he and his wife were active in church wherever they went. They also were active in the Kansas City Region of the Christian Church of the Disciples of Christ. He was an active member of the Merriam Christian Church in Merriam, Kan., for over 55 years, where he served as chairman of the board and elder emeritus.

Floyd is also survived by two children: Rev. Barbara Kay Gulick (husband John) of Jefferson City, Mo.; James Dale Lytle (wife Laurie) of Loveland, Colo.; two grandchildren: Chris Hitt and Stefanie Brown; four great-grandchildren: Jackson Dale Gulick, Chester Hubbard, Cassidy Hubbard and Caleb Hitt. Floyd was also preceded in death by a grandson: John Dale Chip Gulick; a granddaughter: Jennifer Marie Brown; two sisters: Pansy Galvin, Lily Umstead; and one brother: Bill Lytle.

Friends will be received from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at the Community Christian Church in Jefferson City, Mo. Funeral Services will follow at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Community Christian Church, with Rev. David Avery officiating. Private Family Interment will be held in Millersburg Cemetery in Fulton, Mo. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Community Christian Church in Jefferson City, Mo.; Millersburg Christian Church in Fulton, Mo.; or the Merriam Christian Church in Merriam, Kan.
