Oda Dorris (Harlow) Keeney
Oda Dorris (Harlow) Keeney, 92, of Fort Scott, went to be with the Lord, Friday afternoon, July 12, 2013. She was born May 27, 1921 in Vesper, Kan., the daughter of Elbert James and Anna Patrina (Hansen) Harlow. She married Donald Lester Keeney on June 27, 1948 in Pawnee Station, Kan. He preceded her in death on June 30, 2011.
Oda was able to attend and graduate from Kansas State University in home economics in 1945. After graduation, she came to Bourbon County to work as an extension agent.
Oda was involved in a variety of church and community activities. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and worked in the church kitchen, taught Sunday school, was president of United Methodist Women, and was chairman of the Mission Committee for many years. She represented the church at The Beacon from its inception in 1985 until she retired the position at the age of 90. She was actively involved in P.E.O. FU Chapter for many years. She and Don were actively involved in the Railroad Club and Museum at Corona, Kan. Another passion she shared with Don was working with Meals on Wheels.
Oda is survived by her two sons, Darrell Keeney and wife Sonja of Tulsa, Okla., and Dale Keeney and wife Kathy of Bartlesville, Okla., seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Don, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Kenton Vann officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 p.m. Wednesday until service time. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials may be made to either the First United Methodist Church or The Beacon, and sent to, or left in the care of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Wall St., P.O.
