Alice Fay Hardwick

Alice Fay Hardwick, 76, of Iola, Kan., passed away Sunday, July 7, 2013, at her home.

Fay was born Jan. 10, 1937, in Fort Scott, Kan., the daughter of Henry H. and Josephine Alice (Thurston) Fawcett. The family moved to Washington state before returning to Fort Scott when she was 12.

On Aug. 28, 1955, Fay married Robert J. "Bob" Hardwick at Revival Tabernacle in Fort Scott, and they made their home in Iola. She worked as a bookkeeper at Scott's Store, at H.L. Miller & Son Dress Factory from 1962 to 1991, was a bookkeeper for Iola Greenhouse and Iola Delux Cleaners, and retired from Great Southern Bank.

Fay enjoyed sewing, riding motorcycles, bowling and following her sons sporting activities. She served as past president of Ladies of Elks.

Survivors include her husband of almost 58 years: Robert "Bob" Hardwick of the home; two sons, Bryan Hardwick and wife, Jody and Bill Hardwick all of Iola, Kan.; two granddaughters, Cyndi Fairfield and husband, Warren and Helen Moore and husband, Craig all of Rowlett, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Jacob and Ariana, Ethan and Abigail Brook; one brother: Lloyd Eugene Fawcett and wife, Helen of Victor, Mont.; two step-siblings: Ciji Hermance and Jeff Hermance both of Washington state; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her step-father, Gerald Hermance.

Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be at the West Plains Cemetery northwest of Fort Scott at a time and day to be announced later.
