Dorothy "Jeannie" Brooks
Dorothy "Jeannie" Brooks, 70, of Hume, Mo., passed away Monday, June 24, 2013 at St. Luke's East Hospital in Lee's Summit, Mo. She was born Jan. 5, 1943, in Fort Scott, Kan., to Arthur Lee McConnaughey and Dorothy Mae Blake McConnaughey. She was married in Miami, Okla., in 1977 to Tom Brooks and he preceded her in death in 2003.
Dorothy was raised in Richards, Mo., and graduated from Richards High School in 1961. She worked at Nelly Don in Nevada, Mo., for 20 years and then worked at Peerless Products in Fort Scott, Kan., for nine years until her retirement in 2010. Dorothy was a board member and treasure of the Rural Volunteer Fire Department of Richards and had attended Rinehart Christian Church. She loved to sew and make things for her family. She also loved taking care of her grandsons.
Survivors include one son, Kevin Brooks and his wife Renee, of Richards, two grandchildren, Thomas Brooks and Colton Brooks, both of Richards, one brother, James McConnaughey, Nevada, four sisters, Dixie Stuart of Neosho, Nancy Mashek, Rhonda Pruitt, and Linda Brooks, all of Richards, numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two brothers, David and Phil McConnaughey.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, June 28, 2013, at Ferry Funeral Home in Nevada with Rev. Ricky Walles officiating. Friends may call now until the hour of service at Ferry Funeral Home, 301 S. Washington, Nev., Mo.
