More attrition, more savings for city

Saturday, June 22, 2013

City officials have made some cost-saving adjustments following the resignation of the city's director of public works.

During its regular meeting Tuesday, the Fort Scott City Commission approved some amendments to the city's salary ordinance. City Manager Dave Martin told the commission the change to the ordinance is due to restructuring in the public works department after the recent resignation of former director of public works Eric Bailey.

Martin said that rather than hire a replacement for the position, he has decided to distribute the public works director's duties among three current city employees.

"I've made three positions that were supervisor positions and made those salaried positions; I've made three manager positions that report directly to me," Martin said.
