Water customers may notice new taste as system is flushed

Thursday, June 13, 2013

City officials said this week local residents may notice some changes in their tap water as water department staff conduct an annual chlorine "burnout."

The city began this week a process called a burnout of the water distribution system, which flushes the system and establishes a "free chlorine residual." The Water Treatment Plant is conducting the burnout to restore normal chlorination to the city's water.

"It started Tuesday and should be wrapped up in about a month," Water Treatment Plant Supervisor Michael Mix said. "This is completely normal, routine maintenance."
