State-qualifying team lands five on softball list

Class 2-1A State Tournament -qualifying Uniontown landed five spots on the All-Three Rivers League softball team, two of them on the First Team.
Shortstop Lakyn Coyan and third baseman/pitcher Mandie Ridge were named to the First Team. Co-league champions Chetopa and Jayhawk-Linn each had four First Team players.
Chetopa's honorees are Chelsea LaPee, Amanda Carrell, Emily Johnson and Erin Kabrey. Jayhawk-Linn's are Lauren Sluder, Carly Jackson, Chloe Wallace and Leslie Nation. Also honored were Ashton Eckerman and Aimee Wimp of Oswego -- which also qualified for State -- Kacy Phillips and Josie Albertini of St. Paul, Jaycie Polhlopek of Northeast and Ashlynn Pinkerton of Marmaton Valley.
Infielder Jamie Dawson, second baseman Brit Stokes and outfielder Torrie Hathaway were Uniontown's Honorable Mention picks. Also on the HM list are Chetopa's Kayla UNderwood, Jayhawk-Linn's Emily Thyer, St. Paul's Darby Kramer, Northeast's Ellie Burns and Amber DeMaranville, Altoona-Midway's Nichole LaCrone, and Marmaton Valley's Kaitlin Ensminger and Kacie Shadden.
Crest and Pleasanton do not have softball teams.
Of Uniontown's honorees, only Dawson is a senior. Ridge, Coyan, Stokes and Hathaway are all juniors.
Uniontown and Oswego each lost their first-round games at Class 2-1A State in Emporia on May 23. The Eagles lost to then-unbeaten Osklaloosa, 2-1, which went on to finish fourth. Oswego fell 13-1 to top-seeded Chase County, which went on to win its second consecutive title.
