Helen K. Stump

Helen K. Stump, age 93, former resident of Grandview, Mo. and more recently of Austin Texas, died Thursday, May 23, 2013, at Sagebrook Health Center, Cedar Park, Texas. She was born Aug. 25, 1919 in Powell, Wyo. the daughter of Noel Ketner and Ruth Elizabeth Koefoed Ketner. Helen grew up and lived in Kansas City, Mo. She married Herrell Stump In 1942, moved to Grandview, Mo. in 1953. She moved to Austin, Texas in 2003 to be closer to family. She was preceded in death by parents and husband. Helen was a dedicated educator. She retired from Grandview, Mo. School District in 1983 and continued to teach for five more years. Helen received a master's degree, taught speed reading, was a certified proctor IQ testing, taught English as a second language for Round Rock, Texas Literacy Council and was awarded the coveted KEYE Apple Award. She traveled abroad and visited many interesting countries, she even rode a camel. Helen was a longstanding member of the Grandview Assembly of God in Grandview. She was a member of many organizations: 50-plus year member and Past Matron Order of the Eastern Star No. 345 Kansas City, Mo, Past President of Pioneer Chapter of American Business Women's Association, Past President of Red Bridge AARP Chapter and Grandview Retired Teachers Association C.T.A. Helen loved sewing, growing roses and many other patio and house plants, travel, attending church, playing cards and being with friends.
Survivors include one daughter, Elaine Gipson and husband Charles, Georgetown, Texas. Also surviving: three grandchildren, Tara Holleran, Austin, Texas, Teresa Titus-Howard (Don), Fulton, Md., Major Jeffrey Gipson (Heather), Omaha, Neb.; seven great-grandchildren, Tayler and Mariah Holleran, Austin, Texas, Patrick, Jackson and Ashley Howard, Fulton, Md., Svere and Oscar Gipson, Omaha, Neb.
Pastor Nadine Parks will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m.. Friday, May 31 in the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in Deerfield Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
