Eagle baseball picks up pair of wins
CHETOPA -- Uniontown's baseball team swept Chetopa in a Three Rivers League make-up doubleheader her Friday to end the regular season with three victories in their final four games following an 0-10 start.
The Eagles went into Monday's Yates Center Class 2-1A Regional Tournament game against Lyndon with a final league mark of 2-8 and an overall record of 3-11.
"These wins are very good for team morale," head coach Chris Woods said. "(Uniontown) overall did what they were supposed to do and communicated very well. The pitching for us was spot on and baserunners were more aggressive. It is great to go into Regionals on a high note."
Uniontown won the opener 16-7, scoring 10 runs in the final two innings. Sophomore John Kuns struck out 6 Hornets and walked 5 as he went the distance.
The game was tied 6-6 going into the sixth inning before the Eagles scored 6 times.
Kuns and James Pearson were each 3 for 4 at the plate. Jacob Duffey, Austin Collins and Zach Schwalm each had 2 hits.
Uniontown scored in every inning of the second game, a 15-3 rout called after five innings. Chetopa (3-13) kept pace in the early innings, staying within 6-3.
Hornet pitchers allowed 12 walks and Duffey went 3 for 5 for the Eagles.
