Martha Lee SpuHarriet Louise "Babe" Stambaugh
Martha Lee SpuHarriet Louise "Babe" Stambaugh, 94, a former resident of Prescott, Kan., and more recently of Fort Scott, died Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at the Guest Home Estates in Fort Scott. She was born March 8, 1919, in Prescott, Kan. the daughter of August Hoffman and Frances Herndon Hoffman. Harriet was a 1937 graduate of Prescott High School. She attended Fort Scott Junior College prior to moving to Iowa. She married Ellwood G. Stambaugh on April 7, 1943 in Reno, Nev. He preceded her in death on May 5, 2011. She was baptized in the Hume Christian Church and attended the Prescott United Methodist Church while living in Prescott. Harriet was a homemaker and bookkeeper for her husband's business. She was a past member of the Philo Study Club. She loved sewing, gardening, canning and collecting antiques.
Survivors include one son, Louis Stambaugh and wife Marita, Lumberton, Texas; three daughters, Kristina Dodson, Fort Scott, Anke Dunn and husband Will, Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Lanza Coe and husband Ben, McKinney, Texas. Also surviving is a sister, Doris "Botts" Hall, Morton, Ill.; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Phillip "Brownie" Hoffman, August "Booie" Hoffman and Leonard Hoffman.
Rev. Kevin Moyers will conduct graveside services at 10:30 a.m. Friday in the Prescott Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Cheney Witt Chapel.
