Commissioners support Community Corrections grant application

Saturday, April 27, 2013

Cathy Cooper, Director for the 6th Judicial District Community Corrections program, visited with Bourbon County commissioners on Friday to ask for their signatures on a grant application and shared some of the challenges her program is facing.

Cooper presented commissioners with her program's Fiscal Year 2014 Kansas Department of Corrections Comprehensive Grant Application, which commissioners approved and signed.

She said her current allocated budget is $322,000, but she is predicting actual operations to cost more than $439,000.

"Depending on what our grant amount will be, our agency may have to make adjustments once the state notifies our program, which is normally in June," Cooper said. "If we have the lower end of the budget ($322,000), we may have to actually lay somebody off or cut some more programming, which we are hoping to prevent."
