Inexperience and injury in the pitching department hurt Fort Scott Community College Saturday as visiting Dodge City swept the Greyhounds 10-1 and 26-2 in a Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division doubleheader.

Starting pitcher Hailey Foster has been pitching with a brace to protect a torn labrum on her non-pitching (left) side, head coach Kristin Schalk told the Tribune Monday afternoon. The injury is progressing to the point where she may need a more restrictive brace on that side, similar to what injured football linebackers wear.

Prior to this season, Foster had not pitched much since early in high school and reserve pitcher Ariel Shirley hadn't pitched since sixth grade.

Dodge City (4-4 East, 9-10 overall) came in motivated to score after the Conquistadors were shut out in both games of a doubleheader Friday at Johnson County. They cranked out 26 hits in the twinbill and three home runs in the second game.

Fort Scott's only score in the first game came from Jessie Camac's second-inning leadoff home run. That was also the Greyhounds' only hit.

Shirley hit a solo homer in the fourth inning of the second game. Later in that inning, Malori Gales scored on a Leah Zimmerman single.

Kayla Holder had 3 hits in the second game for Fort Scott (1-9, 1-11). Lizzie Aller had 2 hits.

The Greyhounds are idle until March 26, when they play at Labette.
