You remembered ... right?
From traditional gifts such as flowers and candy, to more unique items like stuffed animals, candles and decorative items, local retailers have plenty to offer those looking for that special Valentine's Day gift.
Joyce Howard, of Flowers by Leanna, said Wednesday the store has been offering items related to Valentine's Day -- including roses, candies and balloons -- since early January, and business "has been going really well."
Customers can buy roses in a vase or wrapped, and can get them individually, in pairs or by the dozen, basically "any amount they want," Howard said.
Also offered are single bags of different varieties of candy, candy boxes, and pre-made snack baskets that contain an assortment of treats.
"They are pre-made with assorted things," she said. "There's actually a box with candy bars and some type of snack like chips or crackers, lots of assorted things."
Cards are also available for sale, and each purchase comes with a small card enclosed that can feature a message. Gift items vary and people can mix and match items to create the perfect gift.
"A lot of people do a sack of candy and balloon for the kids at school," Howard said.
The most popular items in the store are roses, followed by flowers in mixed arrangements. The store sells mostly traditional gifts. Customers can pick items up at the store but delivery option is available, Howard said.
Howard said the store is always busy on the last day of shopping for a holiday or other special observance throughout the year.
"It always is on the last day," she said. "We've been swamped all week, which is good; it's a blessing."
Country Cupboard owner Judy Renard said Wednesday business at her shop has picked up the last few days. The Valentine's Day section in her store features everything from balloons and cards to decorative items.
"Anything that's red, people like," she said. "It doesn't have to be a heart although those are popular."
Business is usually good at the shop on Valentine's Day and always seems to pick up closer to a holiday or observance.
"A lot of people remember to get something at the last minute," Renard said.
Hot sellers recently have been cards, stuffed animals, and decorative and collectible items such as silver angels holding hearts, country hearts made of cardboard, and hearts made of quilt scraps.
Renard said the store offers free gift wrapping and delivery.
Taira Williams of Sekan Occasion Shops said Wednesday that the store has been "very busy" selling mostly traditional Valentine's Day gifts such as flowers and candies. The store offers roses and flowers in mixed arrangements, and basket gift sets that can be purchased pre-made or customized.
"We can customize about anything they would want," Williams said. "Others might pick out candles, or fake rose petals and different things and arrange the basket and we'll wrap it up for them and put a bow on it. They can get anything they want."
Williams said some of the shop's customers return each year and customize gifts "based on what their tastes are."
The store will most likely be busy "non-stop" from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Valentine's Day, Williams said. Delivery will be available most of the day, but customers can also come in to pick up gifts.
Those looking for a unique yet tasty gift for Valentine's Day might try Papa Don's restaurant, a local pizzeria that will be selling heart-shaped cheesesticks, breadsticks and cinnamon breadsticks throughout the day Thursday.
