Beverly E. Hicks, 99, of Fort Scott, Kan., died at 3:10am Tuesday February 5, 2013 at the Medicalodge Nursing Home in Fort Scott, Kan., following an illness.

Beverly was born November 30, 1913, in Council Grove, Kan., the daughter of Roy and Bessie (Jones) Miller. She was a graduate of Council Grove High School in Council Grove, Kan. Beverly lived in Council Grove, Auburn, and Burlingame, Kan. until her husband passed away in 1985. At that time Beverly followed her son and his family allowing her to see her grandchildren grow up. She spent time in several Kansas towns and in Corning, Iowa before moving to Fort Scott. Beverly was preceded in death by her parents Roy and Bessie (Miller) Wilson, her husband of 50 years, John Hicks, two brothers, Richard and Raymond Miller, and a grandson, Shane Hicks.

On July 11, 1935, Beverly married John Hicks in Lyndon, Kan. Beverly worked in her younger years as a bookkeeper for her and her husband's farms and later for Wilkins Equipment and Taylor's IGA in Burlingame.

Beverly was a member of the Christian Church in Hoxie, Kan.; Methodist Church in Burlingame. She loved gardening, active in 4-H as a community leader and will be most remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She is survived by her son, Monte, and wife Elaine Hicks, Fort Scott; three grandchildren, Amy Hicks-Oliver of San Francisco, Calif.; Cassie, John, and great granddaughter Cianna Condon of Seattle, Wash.; and Josh Hicks of Seattle, Wash.

A Memorial Graveside Service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday February 16, 2013 at the Greenwood Cemetery in Council Grove, Kan.
