Eagle boys winners; girls fall to Buffs
PLEASANTON -- Uniontown sent Altoona-Midway's boys to their 30th consecutive regular-season defeat in the consolation of the semifinals of the Pleasanton Mid-Season Tournament here Thursday evening.
Eagle girls fell to top-seeded Prairie View, 50-37, in the championship semifinals and will face Jayhawk-Linn (5-5) at 4 p.m. Saturday in the third-place game.
Eagle boys (4-7) built a 19-8 lead after one period, then outscored the Jets (0-10) 23-16 in the second.
Brenton Esslinger led the Eagles with 27 points. Skyler Riley added 17.
The boys will take on Jayhawk-Linn in the fifth-place game at 2:30 Saturday in the north gym. The Jayhawks (3-7) advanced with a 59-39 win over Pleasanton.
Prairie View girls (9-2) held a 17-4 lead after one period. The Eagles (3-8) rallied a bit in the second, getting within 26-17.
"Tonight our team competed and played with heart," head coach Dustin Miller said. "We played solid defense which kept us in the game until the fourth quarter. A loss never feels good, but our team got better tonight."
Hayden Rathbun led the Eagles with 14 points.
Jayhawk-Linn lost to Pleasanton, 25-17, in the other semifinal.
