Nadine Lucille Steele age 81, of Osawatomie, Kan., died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at the Life Care Center of Osawatomie.

Nadine was born Oct. 26, 1931, in Farlington, Kan., to John and Irkle Lavena (Baysinger) Lane. She was the youngest of five children.

She attended grade school and high school in Fort Scott, Kan., in the graduating class of 1949.

On Nov. 29, 1949, she and "Jack" Steele married in Fort Scott, Kan., while Jack was still in the Navy. After his discharge, Nadine and Jack lived in Fort Scott, and Nevada, Mo., eventually settling in Osawatomie, Kan., in 1955. They became the parents of four children. Nadine was a great homemaker. She did work as a seamstress for Mode-O-Day clothing Factory in Osawatomie from 1965-1971.

Nadine was preceded in death by her husband, "Jack" on Aug. 9, 2012; her parents; one brother and two sisters.

She is survived by one son, Steven Blaine Steele (Kathy) of Topeka; three daughters, Cheri Lynn Cowman (Steve) of Paola, Kan., Judith Annette Steele of Gardner, Kan., and Andrea Joy Kierl (John) of Osawatomie, Kan.; one sister, Dorothy Mullins of Portland, Ore.; four grandchildren, Jason Kuder (Jenna) of Olathe, Kan., Justin Kuder (Jared Summers) of Kansas City, Mo., Kurt Cowman (Kelley) of Olathe, and Christopher Kierl of Osawatomie, Kan.; three great-grandchildren, Katie Walters of Olathe, Kan., Gracie Cowman and Jack Cowman of Olathe.

Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, memorial service to follow at 2 p.m. at the Eddy-Birchard Funeral Home, with burial at the Osawatomie Cemetery Osawatomie, Kan.
