Humboldt boys, Prairie View girls top seeds at Pleasanton

The undefeated Humboldt boys' team and Prairie View's one-loss girls' squad are the top-seeded teams in next week's Pleasanton Tournament. The brackets for the event, which begins Tuesday, were released Thursday.

Only three boys' teams and two girls' teams are assured of having winning records going into the tournament. Uniontown's boys are the No. 5 seed on the boys' side with a 3-5 record. Eagle girls are the fourth seed on the girls' side despite a 2-6 record.

Uniontown's boys will open the tournament when they face fourth-seeded Central Heights (3-4) at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the south (old) gymnasium. At the same time in the north gym, Humboldt (8-0) will face winless Altoona-Midway (0-7). The losers of those games play at 5:30 Thursday in the south gym while the winners play at the same time in the north gym.

The bottom half of the boys' bracket sees Prairie View (5-3), the third seed taking on Jayhawk-Linn (2-6) at 8:30 Thursday in the south gym. Second-seeded Crest (5-1) plays Pleasanton (1-5) at the same time in the north gym. Winners play Thursday at 8:30 in the north gym while the losers play at the same time in the south gym.

Friday is traditionally an off day at the tournament, though it can be used as a make-up day if a snow-out happens earlier in the week.

The final rounds are Saturday. The seventh-place game takes place at 1 p.m. in the south gym. The fifth-place game will be in the north gym at 2:30. The third-place game will be held in the south gym at 5:30 with the championship to take place in the north gym at the same time.

Uniontown's girls will face Humboldt, which is also 2-6, Tuesday at 5;30 in the south gym. The Eagles beat the Cubs, 38-35, in the first round of Humboldt's tournament in December.

Prairie View (7-1) will face Altoona-Midway (0-7) at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the south gym. The winner of this game faces the Uniontown-Humboldt winner at 4 p.m. Thursday in the north gym. The losers face each other ar the same time in the south gym.

No. 3 seed Jayhawk-Linn (4-4) takes on Central Heights (1-6) at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the north gym Second-seeded Pleasanton (5-1) faces Crest (0-6) at 7 p.m. in the north gym. Winners play at 7 p.m. Thursday in the north gym. Losers square off at the same time in the south gym.

Saturday's placing games have the seventh-place match at 1 p.m. in the north gym, the firth-place game at 2:30 in the south gym, the third-place contest at 4 p.m. in the south gym and the championship at 4 p.m. in the north gym.
