Fort Scott women fall in KJCCC play

COFFEYVILLE -- Fort Scott Community College brought just five players here Saturday night and the Greyhound women's basketball team fell in Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division play to Coffeyville, 80-44.

Fort Scott began the season 3-0 but has since lost 10 consecutive games. In many of those losses, the 'Hounds have had just six or seven players dressed.

Coffeyville (1-0 East, 4-9 overall) led 36-23 at the half and outscored Fort Scott by 23 points in the second half as its depth was too much for the 'Hounds to overcome.

Burgandie Lewis scored 15 points to lead Fort Scott (0-3, 3-10) and also led the team with 8 rebounds. Malori Gales added 11 points.

Kourtney Carpenter made 13 of 21 shots from the field in leading the Red Ravens with 29 points. Chelsie Keys added 17 points.

Coffeyville shot 48 percent from the field, making 34 of 71 field-goal attempts and outrebounded Fort Scott, 64-16. The Greyhounds shot 37 percent on 15 of 56.

Fort Scott will host Neosho County Wednesday at 5:30 at Arnold Arena in another Eastern Division contest.

NOTES -- As of Monday night, Lewis, Gales, Erika McKenzie, Rebecca Fisher and Jackie Horn are the only players listed on the Fort Scott roster on both the school (www.fsgreyhounds.com) and KJCCC websites (www.kjccc.org). Horn and Fisher didn't join the team until after the third game of this season. Lewis and McKenzie are sophomores....
