Erie teams take tourney games from Eagles

HUMBOLDT -- Both of Uniontown's teams fell to Erie Thursday night in second-round games at the Humboldt Emprise Bank Tournament. Eagle girls dropped a 33-22 verdict while Uniontown's boys lost 52-45.

Erie boys held a 16-11 lead after one but the Eagles (1-2) got back within 21-22 at the half.

The Red Devils doubled Uniontown's output in the third quarter, 10-5, and held on for the win.

Brenton Esslinger led the Eagles with 21 points. Peters paced Erie with 16.

Erie's girls held a 10-6 lead after one period. There were just 9 total points scored in the second, but the Red Devils retained a 14-11 lead.

Uniontown (1-2) was held to 2 points in the third quarter and trailed 24-13 going into the final stanza.

Only four Eagles scored. DaNisha Robinson had 8 points and 11 rebounds. Hayden Rathbun added 7 points and Mandie Ridge scored 6.

Rathbun picked up 2 steals. Lakyn Coyan, Lauren Rockhold and Emily Shinn each dished 2 assists.

Both Uniontown teams face Three Rivers League rival Crest tonight in the final round.
