Genealogy society sets annual meeting
The Old Fort Genealogy Society will hold its annual meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29, in the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church, 301 S. National Ave.
President Ken Lyon will welcome members then hold a brief annual meeting, which includes the election of 2013 officers.
Following the meeting, local historian Arnold Schofield will talk about the Forts of Fort Scott, Lunette's Blair, Henning and Insley. He'll describe the history of these fortifications, giving their locations and purpose, information about them, who they were named for and their disposition, a news release said.
The presentation is meant to clarify many questions and points of confusion on these temporary structures built in 1863 during the Civil War to protect Fort Scott.
Refreshments will be available following the program and the public is welcome to attend. For more information, call 223-3300.
