Thursday, October 18, 2012

Fort Scott High School will be the No. 7 seed at Saturday's Pittsburg Class 4A Sub-State Volleyball Tournament. Play begins at 2 p.m. with first-round and semifinal action on two courts.

Fort Scott (10-23) will face second-seeded Girard (23-12) at 2 p.m. while eighth-seeded Columbus (8-26) will take on top seed Frontenac (32-4) at the same time on the other court. Following those matches, No. 5 Parsons (14-21) will play No. 4 Labette County (18-13) and No. 6 Baxter Springs will take on No. 3 Pittsburg (22-15).

Semifinals will take place simultaneously as well with Fort Scott, should it win, facing the Columbus-Frontenac winner.

Fort Scott lost to Girard in two sets in a season-opening quadrangular at Girard to open the season Aug. 25. Frontenac is the only team here the Tigers have not faced this season. They are 3-6 against the rest of the field.
