Tiger junior varsity tennis finishes fifth at Parsons tournament
PARSONS -- Fort Scott High School's junior varsity tennis team finished fifth in a eight-team tournament here Monday. Chanute won the team title followed by Independence, Pittsburg and Parsons.
Char Hutchison and Emmah Reeves finished second in No.2 doubles. They defeated Kalee Bryant/Katie Capps of Independence in a tie-breaker 7-6 (7-5) and downed Nikita Ghandi/Natalie Benevidas of Parsons, 6-2. The fell in the final to Chanute's Rachel Ungle/Angela Alger, 7-5.
Jasmine Davis was third in No. 1 singles. She beat Olivia Laidler of Pittsburg, 6-3. She lost to Indy's Kalie Matthews, 6-0, in the semifinal but came back to beat Parsons' Jessica Farris, 6-4, in the third-place match.
Kandice Rost and Aubin Duff finished fifth in No. 1 doubles. The lost to Baileigh Boydston/Morgan Stephens of Parsons, 7-6 (7-5) in the first round but shut out their last two opponents, Baileigh Seeber/Caleena Smith of Iola and Chelsie Burroughs/Alexi Nolen of Coffeyville.
Danielle McDowell placed sixth in No. 2 singles. She lost to Jenny Angelton of Chanute, 6-3, beat Jessica Soyoung of Coffeyville, 6-4, and lost to Chelsea Cushing of Independence, 6-4.
The next scheduled outing for the Tiger JV is Sept. 25 in a home dual with Nevada.
