ALVA O. HITE JR.
Alva Otis Hite Jr., 88, of Deerfield, Mo., died Monday Sept. 17, 2012, at Mercy Hospital. He was born May 22, 1924, in Fort Scott, Kan., the son of Alva Otis Sr. and Gladys Mae (Cox) Hite. He married Joyce Marie Larcom May 3, 1952 in Fayetteville, Ark., and she preceded him in death Aug. 1, 1985. On Dec. 11, 1992, Alva married Neva Bunn, and she survives of the home.
Alva graduated from Uniontown High School and after a semester at FSCC, he went to Wichita for tooling courses and also Fort Monmouth, N.J., for signal courses. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1947 until 1950 as a Staff Sergeant. Alva was a member of the Uniontown First Missionary Baptist Church and the Ruritan Club of Uniontown. He worked for 26 years at Beech Aircraft and Boeing doing tooling and retired in 1986.
In addition to his wife Neva, Alva is survived by his sons, Mike Hite, Tom Hite, Gary Hite and wife Diane, all of Newton, Kan., and Joe Hite and wife Shelly of Valley Center, Kan.; three step-daughters, Debbie Keller of St. Louis, Mo., Kay McCune of Baldwin, Kan., and Margaret Smith of Great Bend, Kan.; two grandchildren, Bryanna Hite and Tanner Hite; and numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and one step-great-great grandchild. In addition to his first wife Joyce, he was also preceded in death by his parents, and a son, Darrin R. Hite.
The family will meet friends and relatives at the Uniontown Cemetery in Uniontown, Kan., for graveside services at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012. Services are under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home.
