Pittsburg wins Fort Scott JV tourney
Pittsburg won the team title of the Fort Scott junior varsity tennis tournament Monday while the Tigers finished in third place.
In addition to the four entries for the Tigers, another Fort Scott player filled an open position for Coffeyville.
Kandice Rost played for the Tigers in the No. 1 singles position while Jasmine Davis was put into Coffeyville's spot. When they faced each other, Davis took a 6-4 win.
Davis also beat Kelli Thompson of Chanute Gold, 6-2, and lost to Jaymi Lawrence of Chanute Blue, 6-3, and Olivia Laidler of Pittsburg, 6-4, finishing third.
Rost beat Thompson, 6-1, but lost to Laidler, 6-5 (7-5) and Lawrence, 6-3, and finished fourth.
Aubin Duff was fourth in No. 2 singles. She beat Jordan Graham of Chanute Gold and Sara Methvin of Chanute Blue by identical 6-4 scores. She lost by 6-1 counts to Chanute's Piper Brooks, who was filling another open Coffeyville position, and Chelsy McQuarie of Pittsburg.
Char Hutchison and Emmah Reeves played No. 1 doubles, finishing fourth. They defeated Stevie Madden/Bailey Ethridge of Chanute Gold, 6-3. They lost to Alexus Johnson and Blair Johnson of Coffeyville, 6-5 (7-3), Cheyenne Thomas/Jenny Angleton of Chanute Blue, 6-3, and Lauren Sullivan/Sam Cicero of Pittsburg, 6-1.
Danielle McDowell and Kristian Engle finished third in No. 2 doubles. They beat Alixi Nolen and Jessia Soyoung of Coffeyville, 6-2, and Abby Brooks/Cassie Ehmke of Chanute Gold, 6-3. They lost by 6-1 scores to Lynzie King/Angela Alger of Chanute Blue and Aliza Benedict/Emily Hicks of Pittsburg.
The Tiger JV has three scheduled events remaining. The next one is scheduled for Parsons Monday. Start time is at 3 p.m.
