Concert features SEK native
The Friday night concert at the Heritage Park Pavilion will feature musician and Southeast Kansas native Jim Harris.
The show, part of the continuing Friday Night Concert Series sponsored by the Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce Downtown Division, is set for 7 p.m. at the Heritage Park Pavilion at the corner of First and Main streets.
Harris, who was born and raised in Pittsburg, has an interest in folk music that stems from his father who would sing old songs for hours on end, according to a short biography submitted to the Tribune.
A graduate of Fort Scott Christian Heights and former member of the Fort Scott Community College Greyhound Band, Harris earned a bachelor of music education degree and a master of music degree in theory and composition from Pittsburg State University.
Currently teaching music at schools in St. Paul, Kan., Harris is an ordained elder in the Church of the Nazarene for which he served as children's pastor for more than 10 years.
One of his favorite activities is sharing his love of songs that tell stories with his own children, with his students, and with anyone who will listen, the biography said.
Attendees should bring lawn chairs as seating will be limited. The show is free and open to the public.
