MARIE W. (MA) KRULL
Marie W. (Ma) Krull, age 90, Mound City, Kan., passed away on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at her home. She was born on June 20, 1922 at Prescott, Kan., the daughter of Otto Lee and Ella Brown, Bruce. She attended Shiloh Grade School, graduated from Prescott High School Class of 1940 as president of her class and attended Mercy School of Nursing at Fort Scott, Kan., for two years.
She married Charles E. (Cap) Krull on May 22, 1944 at Fort Scott. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1976. Marie worked at the Nevada, Mo., City Hospital, Mound City United States Post Office and worked alongside her husband Cap at the Krull Insurance Agency. Marie was very active in her community. She was the first lady to serve on the Mound City Council, and held that position for 10 years.
Marie was a member of the Mound City Christian Church, was financial secretary of the Mound City Federated Church, past president of the Federated Women's Society, former member of the Order of Eastern Star, served on the Advisory Board of the International Order of Rainbow Girls, and held a current membership in the Hewitt New Post American Legion Auxiliary. She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Tracy Gillum Callaway, four brothers: Roy, Ralph, Carl, and Kenneth Bruce, and a sister, Mildred Giffin. She is survived by a son Charles E. Krull and wife Lisa of Hays, Kansas, three daughters: Elaine Gillum and husband Gary of Prairie Village, Kansas, Linda Vaughn and husband, John, of Leawood, Kansas, and Pam Hurt and Husband Al, of Mound City, a brother, Ret. Major Lowell (Jack) Bruce of Twentynine Palms, Calif., sisters in law, Leota Bruce of Kennett Square, Pa., Margaret Bruce of Ephrata, Washington, Edna Krull Gorman of Prescott, Kan., and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Lloyd and Shirley Krull of Fort Worth, Texas, nine grandchildren: Misty Vaughn Wilson (Jeff), Travis Vaughn (Marisa) Meaghan Vaughn Benz, Karah Hurt Hight (Tim), Courtney Hurt, Brennan Hurt (Ashley), Heather Krull, Hollie Herbel, and Olivia Herbel, 11 great- grandchildren: Justin and Amanda Callaway, Kylie, Bailey, and Ryleigh Wilson, Aubrey Vaughn, Cooper and Campbell Hight, Gavin and Ayla Hurt and Ayden Benz, and two great-great-grandchildren soon to arrive.
A gathering to celebrate the life of Marie (Ma) Krull will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at the Mound City Christian Church. Friends and relatives are encouraged to remain after the service to visit and fellowship. Ma has been cremated and will be inurned by her husband Cap at a later date.
