'Hounds 4-0 in home tourney
Fort Scott Community College's volleyball team finished the weekend with a perfect record as it went on to defeat three more teams in it's season-opening home tournament.
The Greyhounds (4-0) defeated Clarendon, Texas, in the tourney opener Thursday night. Details from that match were published in Friday's edition and can still be seen online at www.fstribune.com/sports.
Friday night, the Greyhounds swept Jayhawk Conference foe Labette and Cedar Valley, Texas. Saturday afternoon, they got by Southeast Nebraska in four sets.
Details are not available from Friday's matches. Saturday against Southeast Nebraska, freshman Dani Rubow led Fort Scott with 10 kills while Ali Cure and Ashley Bell each had 8. Taylyn Schwartz handed out 27 assists while Bell recorded 6 blocks.
The 'Hounds dropped the first set 25-23 after leading just once at 18-17. Southeast held a 10-3 lead at one point.
Fort Scott won the second set 25-14 after scoring the last five points and never trailed in the third set in taking a 25-15 win.
Southeast used a 9-0 run in the fourth set to take a 16-13 lead but could not pull away despite having serving for game point four times.
The Greyhounds open conference play Wednesday night. Highland will visit Arnold Arena for a 5:30 p.m. match.
