Friday night concert coming up
This Friday's concert at the Heritage Park Pavilion will feature local barber and musician Jake Johnson on guitar and vocals.
The show, part of the Friday Night Concert Series, is set for 7 p.m. at the Heritage Park Pavilion at the corner of First and Main streets.
Johnson, a Fort Scott native and graduate of Fort Scott Community College, is the owner of Jukebox's Barber Shop in downtown Fort Scott. He performs a variety of music, including old standards, alternative and gospel.
Concert organizer Ralph Carlson said Johnson regularly performs from 7 p.m. to closing at La Hacienda, a local Mexican restaurant. His shows help benefit the Lee's Paws and Claws Animal Shelter.
The Friday concert will also feature guitarists and vocalists Tim and Patty Pruitt. They perform traditional, gospel and contemporary pop music. Tim is an amateur luthier and makes some of his own instruments. Carlson said their music is "unique and I am anxious to present them to our group."
There will also be music from other regular performers at the pavilion. Time will be set aside for an open mic for anyone who would like to perform a song, Carlson said.
Attendees should bring lawn chairs as seating will be limited.
The concert series is sponsored by the Fort Scott Area Chamber of Commerce Downtown Division. The show is free and open to the public.
