FSCC baseball 4th nationally in GPA

Tuesday, July 24, 2012

The postseason honors continue for Fort Scott Community College baseball as the team finished fourth in the NJCAA in team grade-point average (GPA) and had two players, Cody McNeece and Caden Cleveland, earn Exemplary Academic Achievement honors with a GPA between 3.60 and 3.79.

The Exemplary Academic Achievement honor is the new name for what was formerly known as Academic All-American honor. As a team, the Greyhounds earned a 3.31 GPA which ranked in the nation out of 395 NJCAA Baseball programs. This marks the fourth consecutive year the Greyhound baseball team has finished in the top four in the nation in Team GPA as well as the fifth consecutive year the team has had the highest GPA in the Jayhawk Conference.

"I can't say how proud I am of our players and their commitment to their academic careers," FSCC head coach John Hill III said. "Our academic awards are the most important awards for us every year. I have a hard time fathoming that our players finished fourth out of 395 NJCAA baseball teams across the nation.

"While we are proud of our players, this achievement couldn't happen without a first class faculty and staff that works with our entire student body and does a fantastic job with our students. This is a team accomplishment that is awarded to the baseball team, but I consider it a team accomplishment that has been awarded to our college. Congratulations to all those involved with this award."
