Roberts accepting internship applications

Friday, July 13, 2012

U.S. Sen. Pat Roberts' office is accepting applications for students interested in an internship on Capitol Hill for the upcoming fall semester.

"Internships can be an important path to starting a career in public service," Roberts said in a news release. "I know first-hand because my service to Kansas began with an internship. The experiences provided to interns on Capitol Hill are endless and I encourage those who are interested in our federal government to apply to join me for the upcoming semester."

Those students who are interested can find the application listed on Roberts' website, Roberts.senate.gov.

Deadline is July 23. Priority is given to students in their junior and senior years.

Students can expect to have a different experience every day.

While their primary duties consist of assisting staff in legislative research and administrative work, they also spend their time attending briefings and congressional hearings, watching debates on the Senate floor and interacting with Kansans who visit the Capitol, all while participating in the cultural events that make our nation's capital unique, a news release said.

Roberts offers internships year-round at his Washington, D.C., office. The internship program provides a unique opportunity for students to work closely with Senate staff, assist Roberts as he represents Kansans in Congress and experience the federal government in action, the release said.
