Agriculture Future of America, Kansas City, Mo., and UMB Bank in Fort Scott have announced the recipient of the AFA Scholarship.

Cole George, a recent Uniontown High School graduate, is the recipient of a $3,200 scholarship to attend the college or university of his choice.

The scholarship provides for George to attend the AFA Leaders Conference, an annual event that provides personal and professional training to college students as they prepare for careers in agriculture, a news release said.

The AFA scholarship would not be possible without the support from donors including: The city of Fort Scott, Consolidated Rural Water District No. 2, Advanced Dental Care of Fort Scott, Ag Realty, Captured Images, Cheney Witt Chapel, Cloverdale Angus Farms, Gross Insurance Agency, Mertz Tax Service, Nuss & Farmer PA, Peerless Products, State Farm Insurance, Dr. Talatt Yaghmour, Skeet George and G-Three.

Also, David Shepherd, Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, Bourbon County Conservation District, Foster Dairy, Pete's of Erie Inc., Don's Spirits and Wines, Reta Baker, VFW, Gorman Animal Hospital, R&R Equipment Company, Fort Scott Livestock Market, French's Plumbing, Ward Kraft Inc., City State Bank, Union State Bank, Citizens Bank and UMB Bank.

The scholarship was awarded May 8 at the Uniontown High School senior award night. Crystal Mattox, vice president of UMB Bank, presented the award to George.

"We are pleased to recognize such an exceptional student as Cole and we hope this scholarship launches a great educational experience and a successful career in agriculture. All of our donors recognize the importance of supporting our students who wish to pursue agricultural careers and hopefully return to the rural communities to keep America's agricultural future strong," Mattox said in the release.
