Redfield Ruritan Club finalizes plans for Independence Day Celebration

Redfield Ruritan Club met June 14 to make final plans for the Independence Day Celebration to be held Saturday, June 30.

All activities except the parade take place in the Redfield City Park. The day begins with the 23rd annual parade.

The parade theme will be "God Bless America." There will be trophies for first, second and third places in the adult division for floats, antique vehicles, classic cars and antique tractors.

There will also be first, second and third place prizes for mounted groups, mounted individuals, group foot units, individual food entries, horse-drawn units, pulling tractors and four wheelers.

All those entering the parade in the kids' classes will receive a 50 cent piece and monetary prizes for placing.

Arts and crafts tables may be set up before the parade. There is no set-up charge.

After the parade, there will be a horseshoe pitching contest. Also, the Redfield Ball Association will have a cake walk. At noon, there will be a free bean feed and at 1 p.m. the adult and children's contest will begin. There will be free bingo beginning at 3 p.m. During the afternoon, there will be free drawings for prizes.

At 6 p.m., a Chicken Mary's dinner will be served. During the chicken dinner, entertainment will be provided by Fuss and Feathers and Friends.

Tickets may be purchased from any Ruritan Club member. Those planning to attend are urged to purchase tickets in advance.

At 8 p.m., the Draft Horse Pull will begin with trophies awarded to the first four places, plus prize money donated by local businesses.

Before the meal, the club sang "America" and Wilma Graham gave the table grace.

Jackie Hall announced the Ponytail Tournament would be held at Redfield. The dates are Wednesday, June 20, beginning at 6 p.m. and Sunday, June 24, beginning at 1 p.m.

The secretary and treasurer's reports were approved as read.

There was no further business and the meeting was adjourned with the flag salute.
