Two local residents were hurt in a two-vehicle accident Saturday evening at the bypass of Third Street and U.S. Highway 69.

A Fort Scott Police Department report said Royce Hyer, 26, and Danielle Hyer, 26, both of Fort Scott, were injured in an accident that took place about 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The two were later transported to Mercy Hospital to be treated for injuries.

Victor Chevalier, 57, of Marshall, Mo., was northbound on U.S. 69 in a 2009 Dodge pickup towing a flatbed trailer when a 2002 Saturn passenger car driven by Royce Hyer entered the intersection at Third Street and U.S. 69 and was hit by the truck, which had run the traffic light at the intersection, FSPD Lt. Travis Shelton said.

Danielle Hyer was a passenger in the Saturn at the time of the crash.

The Saturn spun after being struck by the pickup and came to rest facing east on Third Street, Shelton said.

Everyone involved in the accident were reported as wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision. Chevalier was not hurt in the crash, Shelton said.

Mercy spokeswoman Tina Rockhold said both Hyers were treated and later released.
