Jack A. Vender Sr., 78, a resident of rural Fort Scott, died Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at his home following a brief illness.

Jack was born Oct. 7, 1933, in Irwin, Mo., the son of John Vender and Mildred Spurling Vender.

Jack married Patsy Brown and to this union were born four children, Jack Vender Jr., Pam Vender Wiggans, Danny Vender and Gayle Vender Woody.

Jack was a contracted mail carrier for over 30 years. He also owned and operated a small dairy farm north of Fort Scott. In addition to raising his own children, Jack and his wife, Pat, raised two granddaughters and welcomed numerous foster children into their home.

Jack is survived by his four children; 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are a sister, Cora Viera and four brothers, Danny, Joe, Johnny and Jerry Vender.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his wife Pat; two sisters, Mary Louise Harris and Sharon Waldrop and a great-grandson, Nolan Vender.

There was cremation. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Services were under the direction of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, Kan.
