Mississippi man hurt in accident
A Mississippi man was injured after being thrown from his motorcycle in a one-vehicle accident Sunday afternoon near Bronson.
Craig Randall Schobey, 36, of Vicksburg, Miss., was hurt when the 2006 Harley-Davidson motorcycle he was driving eastbound on U.S. Highway 54 entered the north ditch, flipped an unknown number of times and then came to rest. The accident took place about 3:30 p.m. Sunday at U.S. 54 mile post 352.7, or 200 feet east of the Bronson city limits, a Kansas Highway Patrol report said.
The report said Schobey was thrown off the motorcycle while it was flipping. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
KHP Technical Trooper Rick Wingate said the accident is still being investigated. The initial report said it appeared Schobey was attempting to go around a curve, went wide on the motorcycle and found himself in the lane for oncoming vehicles.
Schobey chose to go off the road in order to avoid the oncoming traffic, Wingate said.
Wingate said Schobey was transported from the scene to Mercy Hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.
Mercy spokeswoman Tina Rockhold said Schobey was treated and released.
