Missionaries need support
Stephen Muhota, pastor of Diamond Community Church on Jayhawk Road, Fort Scott, and his daughter Grace, a nurse at St. Luke's College of Nursing in Kansas City, have put together a medical team to go to Nakuru, Kenya, May 28 to offer a desperately free medical clinic for 10 days.
Kenya has no state-assisted medical programs and only about 10 percent of people have health insurance. Payment is also required prior to receiving medical care, a news release said.
The medical mission is hoping to help more than 2,000 sick people with diagnosis, treatment, tests and health education. Unfortunately, many will be turned away because of the team's inability to cater to all who need the help. Visit Grace's blog at http://neemam.wordpress.com.
The team is still trying to gather a number of things. These include $2,175 to cover medicine, hiring of tents, seats, license for the doctors and extra baggage fees. Also, gloves, thermometers, vitamins, over-the-counter pain killers, glucose meters, stethoscopes and basic first-aid kits are needed, the release said.
Donations are greatly appreciated. Consider the expiration date if donating multivitamins and/or pain killers.
