George Washington Christeson

George Washington Christeson, age 86, resident of rural Arma, Kan, died Thursday, April 26, 2012, at his home. He was born July 6, 1925, at Ottawa, Kan., the son of Mearle J. Christeson and Esther Harkens Christeson. He married Nettie M. Maley on May 24, 1947, at Independence, Mo. George had honorably served with the United States Navy. He had later worked as a self-employed painter. He was a member of the Grace Baptist Tabernacle.

Survivors include a son, Donnie Christeson, Liberty, Kan.; two daughters, Dee Christeson, Fayetteville, Ark. and Vickie Rood, Kansas City, Mo. Also surviving are two brothers, Chuck Christeson and Mearle J. "Cappy" Christeson, Jr., both of Iowa; two sisters, Josephine Maley, Garnett, Kan. and Dee Bennett, Kansas City, Mo.; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Sprague; two sons, George Alan Christeson and Wayne Christeson; three grandchildren and seven brothers and sisters.

There was cremation. Rev. Paul Rooks will conduct a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2012, at Grace Baptist Tabernacle. Burial will follow in the U.S. National Cemetery where military honors will be provided by the Olson Frary Burkhart Post 1165 Veterans of Foreign Wars.
