Success; Fundraiser for Ty Lundberg brings in more than $5,000.

A recent fundraiser for 10-month old Ty Lundberg and his family was a success.
Members of the Fort Scott Modern Woodmen of America chapter, the Care to Share cancer support group, The Sharing Bucket and the Elks Lodge helped raise money for Ty and his family through a March 16 chicken and noodle feed at the Elks Lodge.
The event raised $5,758, including $2,500 matched by Modern Woodmen's home office through the organization's Matching Fund program.
The money will be used for medical and travel expenses related to Ty's treatment for neuroblastoma -- a cancerous tumor that develops from nerve tissue and occurs in infants and children. Ty was diagnosed with the illness at 3 weeks old.
The fundraiser was organized by Elks member Linda Findley, a longtime friend of the Lundberg family, and at least 500 people were served. Many people made monetary donations rather than purchasing meals.
The Matching Fund program offers Modern Woodmen members nationwide the chance to show their support for a community cause, organization or individual in need by holding fundraisers. Modern Woodmen matches money raised up to $2,500. These fundraising projects contribute more than $6.5 million to community needs nationwide each year, a news release said.
Coordinated by local Modern Woodmen members, chapters provide opportunities to connect through social activities and volunteer projects.
As a tax-exempt fraternal benefit society, Modern Woodmen sells life insurance, annuities and investment products not to benefit stockholders but to improve the quality of life of its stakeholders-members, their families and their communities. This is accomplished through social, charitable and volunteer activities. Annually, Modern Woodmen and its members provide more than $23 million and nearly one million volunteer hours for community projects nationwide, the release said.
