Battery E, 161st Field Artillery, Fort Scott's unit of the national guard, has presented to authorities for exhibition in the city's new museum on Carroll Plaza, now in process of preparation, the historic phonograph which was presented by the citizens of Fort Scott to this city's old Company G as that company was encamped in the old Athletic Park at the southwest edge of the city after the United States had entered the World War. A subscription was taken up among the citizens of Fort Scott to raise money with which to buy the phonograph for the entertainment of the Company G boys at their camp. They wished to take the instrument with them to France. But military authorities would not allow it. The instrument is of the old fashioned horn type. The instrument is said to be in very good condition.
