Eagles sweep Oswego in league play
OSWEGO -- Uniontown's softball team swept Oswego here Monday in a rain-shortened Three Rivers League doubleheader. The Eagles took game one in five innings, 12-0, and the second game, 9-3. The nightcap was called in the sixth inning due to lightning.
Lakyn Coyan, Hope Jurgsenen and Torrie Hathaway led the Uniontown offense in the first game with 3 hits each. One of Jurgensen's hits was a double while Tayler Shook had a triple as one of her 2 hits. The Eagles scored half their runs in the second inning.
"We were able to take advantage of timely hits, walks, and our baserunning to score several runs today," Uniontown head coach Alan Shinn said. "As a team we hit the ball well today."
Taylor Wade (4-0) allowed 5 hits and didn't walk anyone while striking out one.
Mandie Ridge (3-1) allowed 1 earned run on 8 hits and 4 walks in the second game. The 2 unearned runs came on the Eagles' only error of the day.
"Even when Oswego was able to get runners on base, for the most part we were able to get defensive stops to prevent them from scoring," Shinn said. "We had several outstanding defensive plays. We able to get two unconventional double plays. The first one was a line out to our second baseman, Amber Bartlett, and a pickoff of the runner on first. The second was an outstanding running catch by our center fielder, Sabrena McAnulty, and then doubling a runner off second base."
Wade and Ridge each had 2 hits for the Eagles. Each of them had a double.
Uniontown (6-0 TRL, 7-1 overall) hosts Jayhawk-Linn Friday for another Three Rivers doubleheader. Play is set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
