Rotary, city, school district also help make park reality

Members of the Fort Scott Rotary Club gathered Friday for a photo around the newest additions to the James B. Tedesco Memorial Skatepark.

In 2009, the club received a District Simplified Grant for four six-foot black metal benches and four 32-gallon trash cans, including dome tops, liners and surface mounting posts.

For the matching grant, the local Rotary Club paid $1,526 and Rotary District 6110 granted $1,526 for a total of $3,052.

The city of Fort Scott partnered with both Rotary and the Skatepark Committee to provide in-kind services for storage and help with the installation.

USD 234 was also a partner on the project, trading some adjoining land with the city so the skatepark could be built in the best area.

District Simplified Grants are a tool for Rotary districts to support short-term projects that benefit their communities. A grant may be used to support a specific local project.
