At the request of the city council, the board of county commissioners agreed to light the courthouse square by placing arc lights at the three corners of the block where there are now no lights.
The city already maintains a light at the corner of National Avenue and Second Street and the county will install lights at the remaining three corners.
The more thorough lighting of the courthouse square has been asked for by the residents of the west part of the city for a number of years past, as nearly all of them pass through the block en route home and it has been dark under the shade trees. The courthouse square will also be more popular as a small city park during the summer season when better lighted, and will furnish a cool place to spend the evening.

The 200 Bourbon County Democrats, men and women, gathered last night for the victory dinner at the Country Club and heard Ernest E. Blincoe, Topeka, a member of the state corporation commission division, bring a personal message from Walter A. Huxman, Kansas Democratic governor.
Complimenting the party members of Bourbon County on their victories in the last campaign, Mr. Blincoe, formerly a prominent figure in civic and political circles here, urged continued cooperation with the administration in the vast undertakings that lie ahead. Later in the evening the party listened by radio to a special address by the President.
J.W. McKee, victory dinner chairman, arranged a program of music and dancing.

At the regular meeting of the Fort Scott City Commission the following action was taken:
Accepted the low bid of $19,800 from MCM Restoration for the repair of the city wastewater treatment plant, which was damaged during the 1986 Fort Scott flood. The commission had previously accepted a bid for the work with another firm, but City Manager Marty Stricklan told the commission that problems developed with that company because a bond agreement could not be reached.
