SEK co-leader Parsons beats Tiger girls, 58-49

PARSONS -- Kiralyn Mosier scored 17 of her game-high 19 points in the first half at Harold C. Johnson Gymnasium Tuesday night, while Taylor Kemp added 10 of her 12 points in the second half as Parsons defeated Fort Scott High's girls 58-49 in Southeast Kansas League play.

The Tigers (2-2 SEK, 5-11 overall) led three times in the game's first 4 1/2 minutes, the last time when Sidney Maycumber's field goal put them ahead 7-5 with 3:40 left in the first quarter.

Sierra Kemp, who scored 16 points for the SEK's co-leaders, sparked a 10-0 quarter-ending run with a pair of layups. Mosier added two more before S.Kemp scored the final basket of the period to make it 15-7 in Parsons' favor.

Mosier hit back-to-back 3-point goals for the Vikings (3-0, 11-14) as part of a 10-2 run that boosted their lead to 29-13 with about two minutes to go. The score was 31-16 at the half.

T.Kemp scored 6 in a row to extend the Vikes' lead to 41-23 halfway through the third. It was 47-29 going into the fourth.

Fort Scott outscored Parsons 20-11 in the fourth quarter as the Tigers scored 10 of the game's final 11 points.

Brianne Lawrence led Fort Scott with 16 points. Maycumber finished with 10.

Parsons shot 46 percent from the field, making 23 of 50 field-goal attempts, while holding the Tigers to 37 percent on 19 of 52.

The Tigers will look to snap a two-game losing streak when they host Iola in the Winter Homecoming game Friday night at the FSHS gymnasium. The Fillies (2-1, 6-9) did not play Tuesday night.
