Redistricting committee meets
The House Redistricting committee met today at noon. The first House map was submitted. The Speaker chaired the meeting and commented on how house members from both sides of the aisle worked together to complete the map.
Public comments can be made to the committee Wed. Feb 1st. In order to testify, contact the Kansas Legislative Research Department or the Speakers office 24 hours in advance (noon Tues.) Phone: (785) 296-3181 or email: kslegres@klrd.ks.gov.
The map can be found at http://redistricting.ks.gov/_Plans/Draft_Plans/cottonwood_1.html.
The map collapses three rural house seats as a result of population loss, and increases the Johnson Co. house seats by three, as a result of population gains. The retirement of Rep. Jerry Williams, D- Chanute, Senate runs by Tom Arpke, R-Salina, and Larry Powell, R-Garden City, were the districts selected to be collapsed.
