Transport service to raise fares

Tuesday, January 24, 2012

Effective Feb. 1, Bourbon County Senior Citizens Inc. General Public Transportation riders will see a $1 increase in fares.

Fares have been at the current level of $2 per ride for 10 years. However, as fuel costs have gone up and grant funding has continued to decrease over the past two years, GPT said an increase to $3 is needed.

Passengers can purchase a pass for 12 rides for $30. The pass is good for six months.

The transportation program is open to the general public in Fort Scott. The service is a demand response service where the individual calls the dispatcher and requests to be picked up at a specific address in the city limits and delivered to a location within the city limits.

The number to call for a ride is (620) 223-0750. The hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. until last call at 5 p.m., Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Rides are provided on Tuesday and Thursday by appointment only for medical appointments, work and school only.

For more information about General Public Transportation, call the Bourbon County Senior Citizens Center at (620) 223-0750.
