Pittsburg gets by Fort Scott boys in overtime
PITTSBURG, Kan. -- Pittsburg's boys outscored Fort Scott High 11-6 in overtime Friday night and gave the Tigers their first loss of the season in a non-league contest, 56-51.
Fort Scott (3-1) trailed 45-39 with less than four minutes remaining but held the Dragons (2-1) scoreless the remainder of regulation as Tyler Adams connected on a pair of 3-point goals during the rally. He hit a triple with 2:05 left to bring the Tigers within one point. Matt Wright tied the score when he hit the first of two free throws with two minutes remaining. But he missed the second one.
The Purple Dragons managed to work the clock down but committed a turnover with 11 seconds to go. Fort Scott called time out but the play didn't work out as a shot was partially blocked.
Cameron Woodring hit a 3-point shot to bring the Tigers within 49-48 with 1:20 left in over time. But Jordan Fondren made it a 3-point game moments later. Then Pittsburg, now in the double bonus, made 5 of 6 free throws in 52 seconds. Woodring hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
