Fort Scott Community College is scheduled to receive a visit from jolly old Saint Nick this weekend.

The college is hosting the annual "Breakfast with Santa" from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the cafeteria, located in the Dick Hedges Administration Building on the FSCC campus, 2108 S. Horton. For $3, children can enjoy a breakfast of pancakes, sausage and eggs, have their picture taken with Santa Claus and receive a gift.

The event is one of several community service projects done by the college and funds go to pay for the breakfast.

"It's one of the community service events we do throughout the year," FSCC Director of Public Relations Kathleen Hinrichs said. "It's another way for us to reach out to the community and show our thanks for their support."

Several people on campus help out with the event, including FSCC employee Jodi Murrow, who is the coordinator, and the President's Ambassadors who assist in various ways such as putting gift bags together and getting kids through the breakfast line, Hinrichs said.

Coffee will be available and adults can purchase breakfast as well.

Each child who attends will get to pick out a gift and will automatically be entered into a drawing for two bikes and two other secret items that will be revealed at the event.

Sponsors for this year's event include Walgreens, Citizens Bank, Pioneer Kiwanis, Fort Scott Kiwanis Club, UMB Bank, Big Sugar Lumber, Shepherd Team Auto Plaza, NuGrille, Ward/Kraft, Jolynne Stainbrook and James Wood.

Walgreen's will help by taking photos at the event which will be made available for pickup on Monday at the store, Hinrichs said.

More than 200 people attended last year's event.
