Chicago-based Bankers Life and Casualty is expanding its insurance and finance business by opening an office in Fort Scott.

Located at 116 N. National Ave., the new operation will offer Medicare supplement and home health care products, in addition to Bankers' full line of financial products, according to a news release.

Lynn Hoyt, a recent Pittsburg State University graduate and licensed agent, has been appointed to lead the new office, which will serve as a satellite to Bankers' Kansas City operations. She previously worked in Bankers' Shawnee office.

"This new office represents Bankers' commitment to the retirees of Fort Scott," said Hoyt, a Kansas City native and 15-year resident of rural Fort Scott.

"I'm thrilled that our customers now have a full-time agent they can meet with face-to-face. Insurance is very personal, and a personal relationship is essential to ensuring that the customers' needs are understood and met. That's hard to do well over the phone."

Established in 1879, Bankers offers a full line of insurance and retirement products for seniors, including life insurance, long-term care and annuity products. This is their first permanent office in Southeast Kansas.

Hoyt may be reached at (620) 223-3636.
